New photos in class Picasa Web Album

After Liz' story about the boy in her class, I thought I'd add a few photos to our Picasa Web Album. These photos were popular postcards in their time, printed in the thousands and sent all over the country to friends and family members for the purpose of sharing the "excitement" of a town lynching. I think these images go a long way to help people without a sense of American history understand the extent of the terror and cruelty that at one time was considered socially acceptable, at least in some communities.

  1. Carolyn;

    I can't seem to access the photos on picasa! What should I do?

  2. Hmmm. You could google picasa and get an account, like you would a gmail account. Or you could go to "account settings" in your gmail, click on "my products" and select "picasa." You probably just need to set up an account.

  3. Some how I managed to look at the photos before reading your comments. What a shock it was to see those images. How awful! It makes me hurt to think this was ever acceptable anywhere.

    1. Yes, it's shocking what people are capable of. It's clear from the pictures that the people felt no shame or ethical dilemma in subjecting a person (usually without a trial) to such a horrible death. It raises disturbing questions about human nature, doesn't it? It does for me.

  4. Dr. Erler, I think you have to add us to your Picasa list so we can view photos. I've downloaded it and everything and still it says page not found, it says your name, but nothings in there????

  6. I've added all your emails to my Picasa account, but you may have to join Google+ to access the album. Francesco, since you and Jenise have joined Google+ I'm curious if you can see the photos. Please let me know. Thanks!

  7. I noticed that if I don't sign in to the blog, the Picasa web album won't show any pictures. However, in the upper right corner of the Picasa screen there is a prompt to sign in using your gmail username & password. Since I've added your emails to my Google+ "circle," the site should recognize you and allow you access.

    Sorry this process has been so convoluted. When I linked this blog to Picasa I had no idea it would be this complicated.

  8. A Ta just posted that he can only see the first image in the series. I give up! I'm going to try Flickr or something else.
